{winter break}

I'm still not sure why we have an entire week of winter break, followed by an entire week of spring break, because it means that we don't get out of school until June 27th! It's freezing cold here, and has been for weeks--I had forgotten what -25, -30, and even -40 feels like. I'm still not complaining though--all of I have to do is think of a Texas August, and I'm cured! Needless to say, there's not a whole lot one can do during this type of weather, and since Caroline has been sick, I really haven't wanted to take her outside at all.

Rick left for Austria and Hungary at the beginning of the week, so they rest of us basically hunkered down inside the house.  We watched a lot of movies, played games, and I let the kids pretty much have free reign on electronics, which doesn't usually happen. The kids were sad it was too cold to go outside, because in addition to the cold temps, we've had SO much snow.  It's snowed at least a little bit every single day of January, and most of February, and they've been dying to get out there.  The mailbox situation is getting crazy, as you can see!

On Friday, it was time to get out of the house. Ryan wanted to stay home and talk with friends, so he stayed with Caroline. I left with the four littles early in the morning, and we headed to the nearest hockey/ice skating rink.  We have been wanting to go forever, but it was first too warm in December, and now it's way too cold to be outside.  Finally we decided to go to this indoor rink, and the kids were thrilled.

After we finished skating, we met some of our good friends at the Science Museum. They have a Curious George exhibit right now, and it was the perfect wintry day activity.  We had a great time, but it's always so exhausting chasing kids around a museum and making sure they don't get lost!

When we were finished at the museum, we went with our friends to a late lunch, which the kids always love.  We went to Red Robin which has been a family favorite for a long time, but especially now that we have Henry, because they have free refills on some of their kids' meals.  I'm afraid they might change their minds if we go too often, though.  :)

Since we were already out and about, I took the kids grocery shopping after lunch.  I cannot express to you how much I love the free child watch at Wegman's.  It makes my life so much easier, and paired with the drive-up where they load your groceries?  Pretty much heaven, especially in this crazy cold weather.

We ate cereal for dinner, then snuggled up with popcorn and a movie.

It was the perfect ending to our very wintry break!
