Last night was a first and a last.
It was Ryan's first ever midnight showing, and the last Harry Potter movie--the end of an era. He COULD NOT WAIT to go, especially because we were making an exception to let him see it. (He can't see PG-13 movies.) Okay, so I was just as excited as he was, and thought the anticipation was going to kill me.
We met at the theater at 10:30pm, and the line was already out the door, around the side and to the back of the building. Of course there were people dressed up (which I love), and there was just a feeling in the air. We met our really good friends there, Julie and Kyler, which made it even more fun. It was quite the procedure--numbered arm bands and the works, but with the amount of people there, it was nice to have some sort of organization to the chaos.
We ended up with great seats--in fact, I couldn't have chosen any better had the theater been empty. The boys were settled with their popcorn and Hot Tamales, and we were all READY!!
(couldn't resist this one...love the arm)
The movie did not disappoint. I cried my fair share of tears, and I was more emotional than perhaps I thought I would be. Not only is the story riveting, but the bravery and courage of a young boy and his friends standing up for what they believe despite facing a certain death is compelling. I also tend to get very invested in the characters of my favorite books, and this was no exception. Watching them grow up has been such an adventure, and I've so enjoyed looking forward to the the next book, then the next movie. Having that come to a close is most definitely an end to an era.
Ryan fell asleep about 2/3 of the way through, and I wasn't too surprised. He's not typically a late owl, and like his momma, tends to fall asleep in movies. I think we'll be back tomorrow--for a matinee. :)
after the movie...can you tell?
All in all, it was a once in a lifetime night, and despite the lack of sleep, still totally worth it.

So that is how you get him excited about pictures - take him to Harry Potter. I must say that after I started having kids, I didn't keep up with my Harry Potter movies. Sounds like I need to catch up.
You are brave! I let Harris see the movie, but he saw it during normal hours today.
how fun! no wonder you haven't called today - i'm sure you're sleeping the day away :)
so fun!! i can't wait to see it. you asked about sending sadie solo on the plane and it was all good. i was hesitant to do it, but we couldn't get schedules to work out and so i decided to try it. she is, probably like ryan, responsible and i knew she would be able to handle it. the airline was very accommodating and my friend was right there to pick her up. in the end i'm glad i braved up and did it. i think it showed her the confidence i have in her. she really wants to stay connected with the friends in az. she worked to earn $ for the flight and i hope it taught her that if she works hard she can create good things for herself as well. i would do it again even though i had to hush some fears:)
I am so jealous! We too got tickets to the midnight showing but passed on them (they were even free). I just didn't think we could make it that late but we are DYING to see it!!! Glad you enjoyed it. I am sure I will cry a good amount as well!
Allan and I did go to the midnight showing, AND I'M SO GLAD WE DID.
It was wonderful. I LOVED IT. It did not disappoint at all. Like you said, it was so fun to see these kids grow up before your eyes. When I watched the first one the other day, it was so fun because I forgot how little they were when it all started.
I hope you enjoyed it the second time.
I can't wait to go back and see it again. I think one of my favorite characters is Neville Longbottom, who I could identify with in the very first movie. And to see him all grown up was so fun.
I cheered so hard in the scene with Molly and Belatrix ; )
