A friend was joking with me about being homeless, but it's kind of true. We've almost closed on the house we're moving out of, and we've almost closed on the house we're moving into, so technically we own one of them, but what it really feels like is that we don't have a home at all. Weird. We're somewhere in between here and there, which is a very interesting place to be.
For the time being, we're living in a hotel, which I have to say, isn't all bad. It means someone else making the beds, cleaning the bathroom, and taking out the trash. It also means a huge pool, movies and microwave popcorn anytime we want them. On the downside, it includes eating out for very meal (which really does get old pretty quickly), cramped quarters, and kids never getting to bed on time. I'm also wondering about the person who designed our room. It has three queen beds, which clearly was meant for families, yet between the very low locks, the water faucet on the edge of the counter, and a balcony, we've discovered it's definitely not 2 year old-proof. Okay, not Henry-proof. ☺
I think when you have movers come and pack you, it's even harder to digest that you're actually moving. It's the fourteenth time we've moved, but only the first that we haven't had boxes stacked up throughout the house during those weeks before. This time it crept up on me, with no piles of boxes to remind me what was quickly approaching.
My little boys were SO excited when this gigantic truck parked itself in front of our house. It took everything we had to keep them out of it, but they did find their way up the ramp several times. One of us needed to be at the house, so Rick was the one who was there most of time, while I did all the errands and took care of kids. Honestly, I couldn't bring myself to be there while they were packing everything up.
Three days later, it was on its way to Texas!
We also said goodbye this week to an old friend...one who has been in our family since before Ryan was born.
We tend to keep cars for a really long time, and have actually only replaced them when we outgrew them. We bought this car a few months before Ryan was born, and he came from home the hospital in it. It's been a great car, but after putting over 200,000 miles on it, it was time for it to retire from family life. I know it probably sounds weird, but it was sad to drive away without it. The kids are still talking about the "speeder car". Lots of fond memories, for sure. We will need to buy a new car for Rick as soon as we get to Texas--already I can tell we are not a one car family!
Our truck was also shipped out today, and we won't see it for about a week and a half. It's funny--I wasn't there when they picked it up, but I passed it on the road and had to hurry to get my camera out so I could take a picture!
In the meantime, we are driving a rental. Apparently, a sign that you have too many many little kids is when they don't have enough car seats for us to rent--and have to go buy new ones, lol. I also quickly remembered that we don't fit in a mini van, and why we didn't buy one when the boys were born. It is brand new though, and pretty darn fancy!
After a week of movers, packing, tons of paperwork, even more phone calls, and hotel life, I'm ready to have a place to call home again.

I was getting teary last night just thinking of today being your last day here. it's real. it's happening and im just not ready yet :( i'm too sad and you just may start getting sick of me once you realize i really am coming to visit in texas - like a l o t!!!
I have been dreading this post for a LONG time. It made me just as sick as I thought it would to read it. Can't this all just really be a bad dream? Oh and who are you kidding...you know you totally make the beds in the morning :)
What do you mean you don't fit in a mini-van. Mine seat 8! You are only 7! Never seen a hotel room with three Queen beds. We usually get the suites where you have seperate rooms it make for getting children to bed easier. I agree with you that eating out gets old really fast. We will spend the next three weeks eating out. The first couple days will be great and then well I just hope I don't burst out of my pants. THey are allready tight from the too good German food. Will have to hit the gym when I get home.
It's not the amount of seats, it's how many carseats!! We have four large carseats, and it leaves too little room for another person to sit. In the 8 passenger vans, the middle row doesn't have three full seats, which we would need. Once you have two car seats on either side, no one can sit in the middle! It's why we went with a Sequoia---three full seats across the middle.
We tried to get a residence inn, like you described above, but there is only one hotel that has them in our town, and it was booked with people here for a big travel soccer weekend. This was the next best thing...I was surprised to see a room with three queen beds--I've never seen that before!
Glad to hear you're enjoying all that yummy German food!!! The gym will be there when you get home!
